There are two ways to remove the barbed post and tubing on a compression rimless mounting.

You can push it out or pull it out. This plier is for pulling. The ultrafine jaws slip under the fixture and around the posts so you can extract the assembly safely from the lens. Prevents lens breakage that results from attempting to extract the post and tubing using only your fingers.
